Your SRi lankan Home.

Kalukanda House

Kalukanda House is a privately owned coastal home, sustainably built from the ground up by a British Sri Lankan female designer who kindly welcomed me to her luxury home in Weligama earlier this year. It is a home away from home with a private shala and is fully staffed with the most wonderful team of managers, butlers, chefs and gardeners.

Kalukanda House is where all daily activities will be hosted; this is where we will gather for activities and meals when we are not offsite.

Kalukanda House was featured in Conde Nast Traveller 24 Best Places to go in 2024;

"Experience the creative, spiritual and healing beauty of a dynamic Sri Lanka at Kalukanda House"

I will be based in Kalukanda House. There are 3 other en-suite rooms available in the house. If you want to be in the heart of the action, choose a room here.

On Weligama Villa

2 Minutes walk along the same road we have an additional luxury 5 bedroom villa called ‘On Weligama’. This villa has it’s own lounge, kitchen, pool, terraces and grounds. Uniquely influenced by traditional Swahili, Arabic and Sri Lankan architecture, this beautiful four-story villa includes five en-suite bedrooms each with ocean views. This villa also has an on-site manager.

All guests staying at ‘On Weligama’ will dine and participate in all activities at Kalukanda house. It’s a beautiful stroll away.

Both villas offer exceptional luxury and tranquility!

your guide & Host.

Katie Mantwa George.

Hello! I’m an Empathy Guide and Founder of Being Human Well. My passion is to highlight the importance of cultivating a sense of ease and belonging in ourselves (and in our workplaces). I’m based in London, but was born in eSwatini to a South African mother and English father. I’ve lived mostly in the UK, but also spent some time living in Cape Town. I frequently visit Southern Africa and India and have recently developed a deep love for Sri Lanka too.

I’ve been fortune to partner with incredible people and brands to boost Engagement, Productivity and Creativity using the power of Empathy in the workplace, but most importantly, expanding Self-Compassion and Self-Awareness in individuals.

Meditation is my primary tool to serve and support others as they embrace a sense of ease and belonging.

I run retreats in the UK and overseas and I’m also a meditation expert on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Wellness App and on the YourHaven VR platform. I left a demanding 15-year corporate career to use my extensive leadership knowledge and blend of unique personal life experience to inspire a more human approach to how we live our lives. I often say I have lived many lives in my 40 years and for this I am grateful because I see the world from a myriad of perspectives.

I hold a BSc in Psychology, MSc in Occupational Psychology and a Meditation Certification (Deepak Chopra’s Teacher Training). I also trained with the Dalai Lama in India and am a certified gong practitioner, trained by James Crossley here in the UK. You are in safe hands.

My blend of Vedic, African and Western practices create something unique and inclusive.

Things You Might Want to know.

  • 2pm, but if you need earlier, please let me know in advance and I can see what we can do.

  • No. The meditation sessions start off gently with practical guidance and explanations. This is a great retreat to learn more about meditation as well as practice different types throughout the week. The yoga sessions will be gentle, slow or Yin. The focus is not on the yoga and when we do practice we will be guided by local practitioners who will explain the origins or the yogic philosophy rather than encouraging us into wild and wonderful asanas (unless of course this is within your practice; we’ll take your lead).

  • Beautiful, warm and mostly dry. Of course weather is unpredictable, but you can expect temperatures to be around 24c to 32c. This is the best season to visit Sri Lanka.

  • Yes, there will be breaks each day when you can relax by the pool, rest in your room, read in the lounges/gardens and do your own thing. There will be one day free of activities too. You can stay at the villa, hit the beach or explore further afield. I can recommend experiences.

  • Book them as soon as you can. The earlier you book, the better the price. Make sure you know which day you leave and land. Due to the time difference and flight schedules you may arrive the next day.

  • Like any other holiday, it is a good idea to get travel insurance. I highly recommend you do this.

  • You will depending on your nationality. You can check here: https://www.srilankaevisa.lk/

  • I need to enter into booking contracts with suppliers during the best time to visit Sri Lanka, so securing refunds myself will only be possible if there is a way to claim back due to an “act of god” as per my own retreat insurance policy. Therefore no full refunds are possible, although I will look at these on a case by case basis to assess what is possible for partial refunds. Transfers to another person can be done up to 7 days before the retreat.

I will do my utmost best to accommodate you, but due to the high investment when hosting retreats, this is harder than it seems. I hope you understand.

  • Bring light summer clothing, swimwear, any toiletries you prefer, sunscreen, and your favourite mosquito repellent. Whatever you would usually bring on a warm trip like this, especially your beautiful self!

  • Yes, there is an optional included 1:1 meditation and conversation session with me 2-4 weeks after you return home. This is to support ongoing practices and to reflect on the experience.

  • My retreats focus on living with ease, self-compassion and building awareness. I do not use any practices that encourage you to go deeper than you choose to and although retreats can bring emotions to the surface, the aim is for you to enjoy Sri Lanka whilst learning something new and picking up wellbeing practices you can take home. If emotions do emerge, we will be there to support each other.

  • This island has been through some difficult times and like many nations that have faced adversity, I see a community that is deeply kind and welcoming and scenery that is utterly beautiful! The moment I set foot in Sri Lanka in March 2024, I knew this was somewhere I would return and it would be a joy to share this magical feeling with you too.
